The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework is the statutory curriculum in the UK and has been thoughtfully adapted to meet the diverse needs of our international community of children at the British School of Tirana.
Learning is a continuous journey that extends beyond the classroom. The EYFS framework encourages learning to continue at home and within the wider environment. We invite parents and caregivers to support their children by fostering a spirit of curiosity—encouraging them to play, explore, and ask questions about the world around them. By engaging in conversations, prompting problem-solving, and nurturing independence, adults can help cultivate inquisitive and confident young learners.
At our school, children are primarily taught through play-based learning, which promotes development across multiple domains in a natural and enjoyable way. The Early Years department, the youngest section of the British School of Tirana, has been dedicated to early childhood education and care since 2016. Our curriculum is grounded in the Foundation Stage Curriculum of England and Wales, ensuring a robust and well-rounded educational experience.
The curriculum covers seven key areas of learning:
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Personal, social, and emotional development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
Each group is supported by a skilled team consisting of an English teacher or Teaching Assistant, alongside Albanian educators. This blend of expertise offers the best of both worlds, delivering a high-quality British-based bilingual education tailored to our students’ needs.
The British Nursery School site accommodates our Babies, Toddler, Nursery, and Reception groups, catering to children aged 1 to 5 years. Located in the heart of Rezidenca Kodra e Diellit, the facility boasts bright, welcoming classrooms and two spacious outdoor play areas that are regularly used for educational activities. The nursery operates from 07:30 to 17:30 on weekdays, with additional daycare services available on Saturdays from 08:00 to 13:00.
Our Year 1 group, for children aged 5 to 6, is based at the Primary School located at Kodra e Diellit 2, ensuring a smooth transition into more formal schooling while maintaining the supportive, play-based philosophy of the EYFS.
